Enough of Acting Like It’s All Fine
Some things change only when we finally admit they’re not working.
You wake up, get through the checklist, answer “I’m good” when people ask — because it’s easier than explaining. Maybe you don’t even know how to explain.
It’s strange how quickly pretending becomes routine. You do it so much that you forget it’s an act. Smile, nod, keep moving. But after a while, it gets heavy. You start feeling disconnected from yourself, like you’re just running someone else’s script.
I think a lot of people are done with it but don’t know how to say so. It’s easier to keep it moving than to admit you’re tired, or lost, or just not fine. But none of that pretending fixes anything.
It just makes you feel more alone.
There’s no big moment where you “stop pretending.” It’s usually smaller.
Saying no when you mean no.
Not forcing a smile you don’t feel.
Admitting — even just to yourself — that you’re not okay today.
It’s simple, but it feels like stepping off a cliff.
If you’re reading this and it feels familiar, you’re not the only one. Maybe today is a good day to just put it down for a bit. See how that feels.
